January truck traffic bans

January is not heavy on public holidays, meaning drivers and transport companies can expect a relatively calm month in terms of holiday-related traffic restrictions.

Holiday truck bans apply only on New Year’s Day and Epiphany. On all other days, only standard weekend, night-time or sector-specific restrictions may apply in certain European countries.

Below is the schedule of holiday truck traffic bans for January 2026.

1 January 2026 (Thursday, New Year’s Day) Austria – 00:00–22:00 Ban applies to tractors with trailers and vehicle combinations over 3.5 tonnes, as well as articulated and rigid vehicles over 7.5 tonnes.

Croatia – 14:00–23:00 Applies to vehicles and combinations over 7.5 tonnes and vehicles longer than 14 metres.

Czech Republic – 13:00–22:00 Ban for vehicles and combinations over 7.5 tonnes.

France – 00:00–22:00 Restriction applies to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Germany – 00:00–22:00 During this period, trucks over 7.5 tonnes and trucks with trailers are prohibited from driving on German roads.

Hungary – 00:00–22:00 Ban applies to trucks and agricultural tractors with trailers over 7.5 tonnes.

Italy – 09:00–22:00 Applies to vehicles and combinations over 7.5 tonnes.

Luxembourg – 00:00–21:45 Applies to vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, with or without trailers.

Poland – 08:00–22:00 The ban applies to trucks with a gross vehicle weight over 12 tonnes.

Slovakia – 00:00–22:00 Applies to vehicles and combinations over 7.5 tonnes.

Slovenia – 08:00–22:00 Applies to vehicles and combinations exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Switzerland – 00:00–24:00 Restriction applies to trucks over 3.5 tonnes.

2 January 2026 (Friday) Slovenia – 08:00–22:00 Holiday-related restriction applies.

6 January 2026 (Tuesday, Epiphany) Austria – 00:00–22:00

Croatia – 14:00–23:00

Italy – 09:00–22:00

Slovakia – 00:00–22:00
